Question: I recently rebuilt my 350 GM boat motor. Motor turns over slowly when hitting the key.?

Sometimes if the starter drive gear fits too tight to the flywheel gear the cranking motor can strain like that. Check to see if it needs a shim. Other than that, check to make sure your battery cables are clean and not corroded inside, if not then take the starter to a real electrical shop and have it load tested.

Take the back cover off the starter and clean the commutator and brushes . Also make sure the grounds are clean

your starter is 9yrs old, you completely rebuilt your motor, why not get a new starter to turn over that fresh rebuild, you would not use old oil in your new rebuild so get rid of that old starter, how much could a chevy starter cost less than 50.00?!?
