Question: Small motorcycle on freeway bike lane?

( Back )

Answer #1:

I would call the DMV just to make sure. But I would think so.

Answer #2:

Legally, the Honda C70 is a "motor-drive cycle."

Most freeways in California prohibit motor-driven cycles. If there is no signage at the freeway on ramp you may ride on that freeway up to the point where you see the sign directing motor-driven cycles off the freeway.

Motor vehicles, including motor-driven cycles, are prohibited from using bicycle paths. A Class III bike route is a motor vehicle route that bicycles may take.

Answer #3:

Q: A motorcycle is what?

A: A motor driven cycle.

Ask yourself this:

If you were cruising on your commute bike at a whopping 15 mph in the bike lane, would you want someone flying up behind you on a motorcycle doing 50???

That's what you would be doing to others. And I'm sure the cops won't want you doing it either, but check with the DMV ... they're the experts on the matter that won't be teaching by use of court appearances.

Answer #4:

No, you cannot ride that on the freeway. It doesnt meet the motor displacement recommendations. It needs to be a 250cc in order to be freeway legal.

Answer #5:

Do you really want to go 60 when cars are passing at 80?That is soooo dangerous. If it stalls or seizes? And ive seen cars passing in the bike lanes also. The Nitro Circus guys wouldn't even do that! And i really doubt your 70 will go 60 safely.Sounds like fun.Let me know how that works for you. However if its not legal....why wonder???

Answer #6:

It's not so much a question of legality to me, it's a question of being able to get youself out of the way of something in a hurry if need be. I can't count the number of times that I have needed to accelerate to avoid being hit by someone not paying attention.
Just remember that anything with three wheels or more is out to get you. Be safe out there.
