this has been driving me nuts for over a year now. i have a honda rebel 250 that ive had for a while. im gonna take a riders course soon to learn how to drive better because i kind of suck at it right now. in a couple years i thought about getting a new bike. but the problem is im stuck on these 2 beautiful machines. ones a honda cbr 600 (the sport bike) and the other is a harley davidson 1200 low. im 18 and i have to pick one of these babies to keep for a while. the problem is my dad and most the people we know are big harley riders or cruisers and im the only on ein love with sport bikes. i mean i LOVE this honda. i recently seen the harley and love it but not as much as the honda. in your opinion which bike do you think would be best for me? i mean im in love with speed but im not stupid and can control myself. but i keep thinking, what if i wanted to go on long trips? would it still be worth having a sport bike or a comfy harley? the trips arent that long its probably about 50 miles. would that be bad on my back if i were to get a sport bike there priced the same. would sportbike insurance be more? would it be wierd to run with a bunch of harley dudes on a sport bike? do you think a sportbike would be right for me when i get better at riding? i mean cuz the position and feeling is completely different right? please please help i dont know what to do and im tearing myself inhalf. go with my dad that wants me to have a nice harley and he hates sportbikes? or follow the georgeous bike ive been wanting since i was 12 and madly in love with?? put yourself in my shoes.
aw man thats the thing. i cant pick a bike thats in the middle. but i will look at buells... i wonder how much a good sportbike buell is that looks like a honda or something. good idea

mark you only answered 1 question!! i guess it helps a little tho. i just dont wanna get killed on it cuz its suppoed to be more dangerous then harleys are.

how do i repair 98 road king Harley Davidson?

Drove my 98 road king Harley Davidson to mountains yesterday. Stopped to get gas and then bike was dead. No power. We jumped it off from a car. Got it started, drove it for about an hour, stopped for lunch and then again it would not start. Bought a new battery. Then the bike started but then the fuel pump not coming on and have to had bike towed over 100 miles home. Is it possible that jumping the bike off damaged some wiring causing a problem with the fuel pump? Other suggestions? Where should I start looking to fix it? Cant afford to take it to dealer.

Your reply is one of the best I have seen in a while. You werent trying to flame me, nor was I trying to flame Harley. Kudos to you for an intelligent responce.

Honestly, I got rid of my 2004 Harley Dyna Low Rider after I invested $25k into it. It was slow, had no tunes or bag space and was VERY bad on the highway. I sold it and bought a new 2008 Goldwing. The Goldwing cured ALL the ills of the Dyna but did introduce some others. However, thinking that I am an intelligent individual, I did some homework before I bought the Goldwing. Mainly, I compared it to the HD Ultraclassic. I simply could not justify buying another HD that is so horribly underpowered, expensive and didnt have the amenities my new GW has.

Until HD realizes that you can buy other brands with more power, amenities, technology and even better warrantys, they will continue to decline. MANY HD owners believe that the ONLY motorcycle is a HD and all others are toys. To them I say "open your eyes"

Another excellent post.

Considering HD is an American company I REALLY want them to make it. However, they really need to start adapting and get rid of the "V-Twin" mentality. Water cooled inline 4's = MORE POWER!!!! Even my GW has a 6 cylinder and puts out almost twice that of a HD. My bike also has built in GPS/NAV, ABS, and REVERSE! Plus, I have tons of other amenities. When your competition is beginning to take over, you need to analyze and adapt. HS is VERY late in the game for it....

I'm wanting to go to MMI after i ETS from the Army, I love Harleys and they have always been my primary vehicle "even the winter and rain". I have no experience in mechanics, and i'm a field artilleryman in the Army. Mainly i'm going to MMI to use my GI Bill and collect the $1,500.00 a month BAH for the duration of the school so i can land at least land a part time job and have a place to live. And to be able to work on my own bike and not pay Harley out the yin yang to touch it, And also to maybe land a job at a dealership but im not betting everything on landing a job in the dealership in this economy. Anyways, can a person who is not a mechanic wizz learn everything they need to know from the ground up at UTI's MMI?

Edit: I do my own oil changes and minor work like that on my bike too.
