Second time this is happening to me. First time I brought it to the dealer. The mechanic simply removed the light-bulb assembly. But I cannot do it. Question #10:
Buying a brand new bike as first ride ever?(250 ninja)?
So yeah, hows everyone doing?Iv been drooling over bikes for along time now, and finally I have the money to buy one! I would love to get a ninja 250r and I have the money to pay nearly 80% of it off right off the bat(cheap bike brand new :D)
But my problem is, I have never driven a bike before, not once, And the town I live in does not offer any motorbike training classes. I also don't know anyone with a bike I could learn on.
How steep is the learning curve? Would I be fine with my very first ride on a 250r, or should I invest in a cheaper used bike for a training bike? Maybe even just get a dirt bike to learn on? That way I would have an off-road bike and on-road bike.
P.S Im mainly worried about damage to the bike. I would hate to do something stupid like drop it. Also, how does buying a bike from a dealer work? If I walk in would I be walking out on my new bike, or do you buy it, then wait for it to be shipped to the dealer?(this would also be my first new purchase :D)
Question #11:
WHAT MOTORBIKE DO I BUY?
I been on here for some time and I see many individuals ask the same question, what dirt bike do I buy or crotch rocket do I buy. My answer is go to your local dealer and test ride them, if your old enough and have a license they will let you test ride them, so do your research and go for some test rides.Question #12:
I recently bought a motorbike & since discovered that the engine number's been removed, what are my options?
That's my question! I've bought a bike privately as a gsxr750, when I bought it I had a good look over the bike, the vin number matched the one in the v5, it stated 'not known' for engine number and I couldn't find where it was on the bike but given the documents were all in order I went ahead and purchased the bike. Since purchasing I've discovered that a lot of the parts fitted are from the gsxr600 (most parts are interchangable) and this lead me to investigate. I checked whether it is normal for a v5 to state that the engine number is not known, apparently it is on an import, which it is, but so far the only thing I can find that I know is a 750 is the frame, the forks, swingarm, fairings etc are all from the 600. That in itself doesn't bother me too much, but it does beg the question "is the engine really a 750 or could it be a 600?" That in itself is a difficult question to answer, it feels quick, its been a few years since I've ridden a similar bike so its hars to tell... But, the crux of the matter is, that the engine number appears to have been tampered with, its very difficult to see, but it looks like its been ground off!I don't know if its even legal now?! I'm really panicking about this now. The v5 would almost suggest that the dvla know about this, but then apparently its normal for the engine number to be stated as not known on an import. I'm too scared to ask the dvla in case they report me to the police. I'm too scared to take iit to the police because I'm afraid ill never see the bike nor my £2k ever agai + possibly face charges for handling stolen goods or similar. I'm too scared to take it to a dealer because I don't know if they are obliged to report it. Are they? Does anyone know? I'm too scared to ride it for fear of being pulled over...
I guess I'm better facing up to it and going to the relavant authority (does anyone know who that is?) But id like to have an idea of what will happen..? If I get caught riding it I reckon I'm much more likely to lose everything. Should I be so worried? Is it law to have an engine number shown? I guess if its been ground off, they can't prove either way where it has come from, that said I can't think of any legit reasons it would have been ground off.
Please people, I seriously need some advice here. It took me the best part of last year cycling and walking around, scrimping and saving to get back on the road, it'll devastate me if I lose it all now for a genuine oversight when I bought it. I already feel stitched up as it is! Please, I beg of you, can someone tell me where I stand, and what my options are? I am considering ALL options, I mean engine replacement, insurance job, I am not prepared to lose it all. I pray my situation is not as bad as it seems.
Please spare me any sarcy' comments about checking before purchase next time, this situation seems grave enough, I suspect I already stand to lose a years worth of hard work, I don't need it rubbing in. Sensible genuine answers only please.
Thanks in advance. K
To the first 3 ans': I am very grateful for your quick responses. I heed your warnings but of the 3 suggestions I do prefer the 3rd. I think if I were 2 go 2 the law I would lose my bike and 99% likely lose the money I paid. The guy I bought it from seems genuine, he's been helpful in tracing its (apparent) history, I only txt him and he got straight back to me. I said "I've been advised to ask you for my money back or I will be going to the police" he said he would if he had the money, he felt bad, but had nothing to hide so would have no problem with me giving his + previous keepers details to the police. I can see that being a quick way to lose 2 grand. The law stuff doesn't worry me, I have a criminal record, it is more the year's worth of hard work and saving being lost that worries me. Id much rather spend £500 on a lump than lose £2k. Does anyone know if recon gsxr750 lumps can be bought & for how much? I don't believe the bike is stolen, just that it may have stolen bits on it

legal advice on a motorbike garage?
I brought my bike into my local garage a few weeks ago because it wouldn't start. i had bought a new battery, bought a diagnostics kit for the cpu, and took the bike apart in the garage and cleaned it up, checked the sparks, it still wouldn't start.the diagnostics said there was no pressure in one of the three cylinders.
when i took it to my local dealer i was told i'd have to leave it with them while the carried out two hours work(£100) to find out what was wrong.
a few days later, i called the dealer and i was told there was no coolant in the radiator and the engine had run hot, as a consequence, i would need to get the engine rebored(£500).
I asked "would that fix the bike? will it be in good running order after that?"
and was told "yes, that will solve the problem"
now, three weeks later, i called the garage and they have told me theres a problem with the cylinders and it "just wont start", to which i replied "that was the problem when i brought the bike in two months ago". they are now telling me its going to cost another 700 quid to get the bike fixed. £1200 in total.
i havent paid the garage any money, but im pretty sure they arent going to give me the bike back without paying the £600 they quoted.
what should i do- now i dont have a bike and a bill for £600 quid.
can they legally hold on to my bike?
i want to get your opinions before i go to speak to them- thanks guys
Question #16:
Does a Motorcycle dealer have to declare that a bike he's selling had a respray?
Hi,I bought a used motorbike back in May, and today found out that the bike had a respray, the original pattern, but in different colours.
The dealer I bought it from has done a HPI check 2 days before I picked the bike up, but did not tell me that the bike was originally red. I only found out today when I had it valued by another dealer, and he did a check for me. He also said that no dealer would ever take it in p/x because it has been resprayed. I also have a private person that would want to buy my bike, but do I tell him, then I don't think he would take it, and if I don't say anything, does he have a come back legally, cos I didn't tell him?
